Kevin Jones
Power Forward   Mount Vernon High School

“ He hits the three consistently and is effective with his jumpers off the catch. Kevin is quick to the ball and quick to both his offensive and defensive rebounds. Kevin has excellent court vision and is a delight to watch play. I would say Kevin Jones has made improvements in his all-around game from his sophomore to his junior season. I know he will have his pick of any major Division 1 program in the country. Most importantly- Kevin is a consummate gentleman, humble and very respectful. I am impressed with his overall talent level and look forward to watching him play at the next level."

“ That was a needle to the heart right there “, Wadleigh coach Mike Crump said. “ We were hoping to bang the big man down low and make them shoot from the outside and than Jones goes out and hits some threes. I was like- what the heck is going on here ? He took the air right out of our strategy"

“ Kevin Jones could have taken a few steps toward the basket for a higher percentage shot or ,maybe even to draw contact. But considering how the fourth quarter had gone for Mount Vernon’s star junior to that point, he figured it didn’t make a difference. With his feet barely on the 3 point line, Jones nailed a long-range jumper with 23.1 seconds remaining, as Mount Vernon rallied from 14 points down to stun Section 9’s Newburgh 58-56 in last nights class AA state regional final at Sunny New Paltz. A sell-out crowd watched one of the most memorable BIG GAME performances during this Mount Vernon dynasty. Jones scored 13 of his game high 26 points in the fourth quarter, shooting 5 for 7 in the period, to keep the Knights on track for their third state title in four seasons.”

“Wherever I got the ball. I knew that’s where I was going to shoot it, the 6-foot- 8 Jones said. I knew once it was in my hands, I was shooting it. My team didn’t have the time for me to hesitate, and it just felt so natural"

“Kentucky coach Tubby Smith flew halfway across the country to watch Knights junior Kevin Jones drop 25 points in the 113-54 win. Jones didn’t get to show his 3 point range but did grab 14 rebounds, blocked 6 shots and recorded 5 assists. And he did it all in less than 3 quarters of play. “’..the fact Tubby Smith himself found his way to New York- and to Emerson Middle school, no less- shows Kentucky is looking to get itself in the Kevin Jones Sweepstakes. When I saw Jones last weekend, he was magnificent. He was completely unstoppable in the low post and when Wadleigh went to a zone to try and beat Mt. Vernon…it was Jones who stepped out and drilled a couple of 3 pointers."

“It was great to see Kevin and the people at his school. We love Kevin so much (and) want him to wear Kentucky Blue. I hope everyone understands how much we want and need Kevin. We definitely want Kevin here at Kentucky . I am glad I had a chance to meet you. We want Kevin."

"6'8 Kevin Jones from Mt. Vernon, NY is starting to make a name for himself on the AAU circuit while playing or the Westchester Hawks. Last weekend was no different at the King James Classic in Akron, Ohio. Jones is a very well rounded basketball player that relies on a variety of skills to get the job done on the court. On Friday night I sat next to Kevin as he watched a few teams play and this is what the soft spoken Jones had to say about Louisville. "I'm honored to have an offer from Coach Pitino,” Jones said. “He is a legend and he has proven to be able to produce players. It would be great to play for him. “I feel that my strengths are running the floor, my post play and the ability to hit open jump shots. I think I have the ability to play in any system whether it's up and down or a half court motion offense. I'm working daily on improving my off the dribble moves because I want to play the 3 at the next level.” “University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino has offered Kevin Jones, a 6-foot-8, 210 pound junior forward from Mount Vernon High School. Similar to the McCray brothers (Rodney & Scooter), Jones is a do-it-all forward who has averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks this season. Jones, a four-star prospect, led Mount Vernon to the New York Class AA state title last week, posting 29 points and 13 rebounds in the finals. He’s burst on the national scene with a big junior season and figures to be one of the top risers on the national recruiting charts this spring and summer on the AAU circuit. That’s why Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith, Jim Calhoun, Travis Ford, Jim Boeheim and John Calipari have all ventured to Mount Vernon this season – to get a look at a kid who didn’t start as a sophomore, but possesses NBA potential."

“Quite often when a forward in the 6-foot-8 range has an excellent outside shot, the player will prefer to play on the perimeter. But junior Kevin Jones from Mount Vernon, New York is not afraid to mix it up inside. "I think I am more of a four though because I like to post more," says Jones…Class of 2008 prospect that is on the Indiana radar screen.“

“Jones, however, did his typical damage to the tune of 26 points and 14 rebounds. He hit 10 of 18 shots and stepped behind the arc to hit four of six. ... Defensively, he had three blocks.“

"The Westchester Hawks have been one of the more successful teams on the AAU circuit over the last couple of years and now that the majority of the team is in the final go round on the national circuit, the team from New York continues to make it happen. Winners of last week's Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest, the Hawks have it rolling here in Pittsburgh. It is a team without a stand alone superstar, rather boasting a wide variety of players that get it done and play smart basketball where team basketball was stressed and each of the players valued the basketball. Kevin Jones, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is the team's most recognizable name and he played well against Salt Lake Metro. Jones scored his points with hard work around the cup but he also showed a good face up game and knocked down a handful of 15 to 18 foot jumpers."

"Kevin is an outstanding offensive player when he utilizes his unique agility. He has the ability to hit reverse layups and use his long arms to make seemingly impossible shots with bigger bodies draped on him. Louisville, Indiana, Rutgers, St. Joe's, UMASS, St. John's and Syracuse have offered...Jones is a great player to watch around the rim. He has  the unique ability to go to either side of the basket on drives too...Kevin is going to have a great career on the college level. "

" Kevin possesses excellent hands and strong footwork. He is nimble around the rim with a soft touch in close. He is very dangerous as a catch-and-shoot guy on the wing, having extended his shooting range beyond the arc as a junior. He's comfortable shooting from mid-range and loves the elbow areas, but this season established himself as a legitimate long-range threat. "

" Juice played Mt. Vernon a semifinal game in the 2007 IS8 Spring Classic. The game started off fast and never slowed down. It was like the tiny gym turned into NASCAR without any caution flags. Just when it looked like Juice would gain control late in the fourth quarter after taking a five point lead, they eventually lost control of their car and Kevin Jones was the piece of debris that caused the wreck."

" Jones, a 6-8 junior forward, scored 43 points and helped Mt. Vernon secure an 82-80 victory over Juice to move into the championship game today at IS8."

" The title for best high school big man in New York might be up for grabs next season. Looking to take claim to that honor is Mount Vernon (NY) power forward Kevin Jones. At 6 foot 7 inches Jones wasted no time staking early claims to that when he scored 43 points against the Juice All-Stars in a semi-final game of the Nike IS-8 Tournament in New York two weeks ago. " Going out and having that kind of performance wasn't something I planned, says Jones. I got going early in the game and things took off from there." With just one season left at Mount Vernon, Jones has a long list of schools hoping for his services. His list includes Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, St.Johns, Rutgers, Syracuse, Seton Hall and a host of others. " I don't have a clear cut favorite as of yet,, " said Jones. " I'm hoping to cut my list down to around 10 by the end of the summer and have a good decision by the time the season starts. "

" In his junior season for Mount Vernon (NY), Kevin Jones averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks per game. The 6-8 200 pound standout's breakout year continued when he posted back to back impressive performances at the IS8 Spring High School Classic earlier this month. The talented rising senior totaled 74 points and 35 rebounds in two games, capturing first-team all-tournament honors. Jones looks to carry his momentum into next weeks NBPA Top 100 camp. " I'm very happy to be invited to that, " Jones said of the NBPA Top 100 Camp. " I am appreciative of being selected." A player with good work ethic, Jones will often wake up early in the morning to work on his basketball skills..." I am definitely working to improve my speed and quickness", Jones said. Im trying to become more of an athelete. Mostly I am working on my ball handling. Me and my brother wake up at five in the morning sometimes to work on my ball handling." Just as hard a worker in the classroom, Jones is a member of the National Honor Society. "

JONES IMPRESSES AT RUMBLE-
"The two players who impressed me the most during the weekend were 6'2" Mike Rosario from Jersey City (St. Anthony) and 6'7" Jr. Kevin Jones Mt. Vernon (H.S) NY and, as a result, they will both move into the top 20 on our list of the Top Juniors Nationally. Jones impressed us with his toughness around the basket defensively and his ability to hit the outside shot at the offensive end. In other words, it looks like he picked up right where he left off last month in the playoffs in the IS8 Spring League."

" When it comes to inside-outside forwards, Kevin Jones, is one of the better guys in the country. The 6 foot-7 New Yorker has done a great job all year proving he can be just as effective around the cup as he can as a face up shooter out to the three point line. Mix that with a great motor, long arms and a good understanding of the game and you have a college ready prospect. Jones has been consistently impressive all week. "
